Sept 1 on FM: Medicina of las Xicanas, Punkera Organizing & ‘Cleaning House’

Hosted by Ariana Manov and Lynn Harris Ballen

Following our Feminist Analysis of the News, we’ll have Las Ramonas, the amazing, funny and powerful multi-media Xicana trio. Marisol Torres, Marlene Beltran, and Jo Anna Mixpe Ley will show us how the medicina of Xicana comedy/performance (combined with punkera organizing) can change the world! These fierce multi-media artists, performers, artivists, and teatristas have independently created, performed, and taught teatro in Los Angeles and beyond for more than 10 years. They are proudly part of Xicana Teatro con Risas y Dignidad.

And …Eileen Galindo, and Caryn West from Sarah Ruhl’s Pulitzer Prize finalist play The Clean House bring us unpredictable ruminations on the importance of laughter and mess as four markedly different, yet intimately connected women grapple with order, cleanliness, class, love and the untidy ambiguities of life. It’s been called “one of the finest and funniest new plays you’re likely to see…tart humor, theatrical audacity and emotional richness.”
