THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen : FIRST … guest host Celina Alvarez talks to Tiny (Lisa) Gray-Garcia aka PovertySkola about her life and work, including POOR Magazine/Homefulness. And we hear about her upcoming urgently needed presentation as a UCLA Activist-in-Residence – “ComeUnity Reparations Into Land Liberation and Homefulness” on April 11th. EVENT POSTPONED DUE TO THREATS
Tiny will walk, vision, spit poetry and talk-story us through how housed people with race, class or formal education privilege can linguistically liberate, lift up, honor and radically share with houseless/ poor/ criminalized, disabled, youth, and elder “poverty skolaz”, so that we can all be safe.
THEN … Voices from the documentary SHE’S BEAUTIFUL WHEN SHE’S ANGRY – a reflection on the rise of the women’s liberation movement in the United States, which explores the emergence of political thought that challenged systems of patriarchy. SHE’S BEAUTIFUL is relevant all over again these days and doesn’t romanticize the early movement, but dramatizes it in its exhilarating, quarrelsome, sometimes heart-wrenching glory. The film also doesn’t shy away from the controversies over race, sexual preference and leadership that arose in the women’s movement, and captures the spirit of the time.
