THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen :: FIRST … Sehba Sarwar talks to Sima Samar, the former Minister for Women’s Affair of Afghanistan, about the current situation for Afghan women in education, health, and the global landscape. We hear how Samar’s family have been impacted by the Taliban takeover six months ago.  And she outlines the issues that Afghanistan faces today, especially women’s rights and education.
AND … Author Reyna Grande joins us again on the show, in conversation with Celina Alvarez. Grande’s newest novel, A BALLAD OF LOVE AND GLORY is a deeply researched tale inspired by actual events and historical figures from the Mexican American War. The story of Ximena Salomé de Benitez y Catalán, a healer with the Mexican Army and John Riley, leader of Saint Patrick’s Battalion as they deal with the struggles of war, while simultaneously falling in love.
