FM Nov 10 : Feminist Art / “Acting Like Women” / Corita Kent’s Legacy

THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen: It’s all about Feminist Art in LA!
FIRST“Acting Like Women” is an upcoming feature length documentary about feminist art, performance art and community at the Woman’s Building in 1970’s Los Angeles. We hear all about it from the filmmakers – Cheri Gaulke and Anne Gauldin.
THEN … Only 3% of historically recognized monuments in the city of LA are associated with women’s heritage. And female artists are dramatically underrepresented and undervalued in museums and galleries everywhere. But the work of Corita Kent – a former IHM nun and LA based artist, most famously in the ’60s Pop Art era – is still resonating with viewers today. And we’re joined by Nellie Scott –  Director of the Corita Art Center – to tell us about how they won the fight to get landmark status for Corita’s studio building in Hollywood.
