THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen : The first weekend in October is going to be an important weekend of action and marches for Reproductive Justice! Two groups of Feminist organizers are organizing actions around the country – The Women’s March on Oct. 2nd and Radical Women on Oct. 3rd – to defend abortion rights. Today we’re going to be hearing about the Sunday Oct 3rd National Mobilization for Reproductive Justice – organized by an intersectional coalition led by the trailblazing socialist feminist organization, Radical Women. And honoring Rosie Jimenez – the first known woman to die because of the Hyde Amendment, which eliminated federal Medicaid funding for abortion. Our guest is longtime activist Yolanda Alaniz – one of the organizers of the Los Angeles event.
AND … Cherise Charleswell talks to Writer and Editor, Emiene Wright, to discuss “The Skillet: How Black Cuisine Became America’s Supper”, and how projects like this – that highlight the important contributions of Black people – underline the need for teaching critical race theory.
