THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen :: FIRST … Cherise Charleswell talks to Petra Kassun-Mutch, Founding Publisher of Liisbeth, an indie, feminist ‘zine about post capitalist entrepreneurship. We hear how LiisBeth focuses on the work happening at the intersection of feminism + entrepreneurship + innovation.
THEN … On July 6th Frida Kahlo would be 115 years old. But still now, she’s a kind of pop icon and her popularity continues. Why? What is it about Frida and her life and art that so many of us connect to in so many ways? We’re joined by educator and storyteller Gloria Arjona – who will celebrate on July 6th with an Facebook/YouTube presentation for the Los Angeles Public Library – talking about lesser known aspects of Frida’s life, and the ways her art is universal and feels personal to so many.
AND … Stories have been all over the media calling our current economic recession the “first female recession in the nation’s history”. Women have been forced out of the workforce at much higher rates than men since the pandemic began, and women of color have been affected the most. Lynn talks to Sarah Hinde of the Tunheim Group about the factors that got us here and what policy steps can change that for our futures.
