FM Apr 7: Get Lit Poets / Missing&Murdered Indigenous Women+

April is Poetry Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Lynn & Cherise talk about what’s in the news.
On THIS WEEK’S SHOW :
FIRST … we hear a poetry month show from the Archives! Get Lit – an LA based non-profit combines teen voices with the power of poetry. With programs including afterschool drop-in classes, the Get Lit Players, the Words Ignite school curriculum and more … the organization is sparking literacy among youth in LA – revolutionizing their educations. We were joined by Veronika Shulman along with young poets Jessica Romoff and Mila Cuda, bringing their own writing & performance to us … live in studio!
THEN … from Making Contact Radio – ‘The Many Faces of Justice: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls of North America’
As reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act awaits a vote in the U.S. Senate, missing and murdered indigenous women and girls continue to face an unequal system of justice. We hear from indigenous women scholars and activists on what justice means for MMIWG2. With Sara Sinclair, Editor of “How We Go Home”, Gladys Radek Co-Founder of Walk4Justice, Dr. Vicki Chartrand, Paula Julian and Annita Lucchesi.
