THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine :: First … This week we hit the one-year point of the Covid pandemic lockdown, and Cherise and Lynn talk about how so much loss happened over the past year that we weren’t able to mourn. And, we discuss the anniversary of Breonna Taylor’s death, how we still need to keep fighting for Justice for her, and how the #SayHerName movement is more relevant than ever.
Then … How can we begin speaking to kids about structural racism? Cherise talks to Kim Narain, MD, PhD, MPH (and chair of the American Public Health Association’s Committee on Women’s Rights) about her new book “The Cycle of a Dream: A Kid’s Introduction to Structural Racism in America” – a great resource for grade-schoolers to learn this history & what it means.
And … Stories are all over the media calling our current economic recession the “first female recession in the nation’s history”. Women have been forced out of the workforce at much higher rates than men since the pandemic began, and women of color have been affected the most. Of course we’re still in the middle of Women’s History Month, but that’s history-making that we don’t want to celebrate. Lynn talks to Sarah Hinde of the Tunheim Group about the factors that got us here and what policy steps can change that for our futures.
