THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen – we’re all about Voting: FIRST … we talk to Kat Calvin, founder of Spread The Vote about their voter education programs that aim to close the gap between registered voters and voter turnout. About 5 in 10 eligible voters didn’t cast a ballot in the 2018 midterm elections. And we hear about their many programs to get as many members of our communities to the polls as possible – including ‘Vote By Mail in Jail’, voter disability access, and their upcoming September 25th Super Voter Ballot Party Training – to learn how you can be the voting expert in your community and throw the best virtual ballot party.
THEN … amalia deloney of the Media Democracy Fund tells us about the Disinfo Defense League (DDL), a real-time, rapid response network to disrupt and dismantle disinformation efforts targeting Black, Afro Latinx, and Latinx communities. DDL works across geography, generation, and gender to equip communities to combat racialized voter disinformation.
AND … The death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg last Friday brought a wave of reactions from many folks, including feminists who felt that many of her decisions had affected our lives in such important ways. We hear comments from Imani Gandy of the Boom Lawyered Podcast about some of the ways Justice Ginsberg mostly inspired, but sometimes disappointed us.
