FM June 25: Juneteenth / Audre Lorde / June Jordan

THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Valecia Phillips ::

FIRST – We feature a segment from Making Contact with guests Dr. Shennette Garrett-Scott and Fania Davis that explores the history of Juneteenth and expands the conversation to include a case for reparations. The topic of reparations for African Americans has recently resurfaced with Democratic presidential candidates taking positions on the issue, elevating the discussion to the mainstream.

THEN – As we close out Pride Month, we present the classic reading by Audre Lorde of her seminal and essential, Uses of the Erotic. She defines the power of the erotic, names the process by which women have been stripped of this power, and considers how women can reclaim it. We also lift up the prolific writing of June Jordan and end the show with her reading poetry.

Feminist Magazine on KPFK 90.7 FM. Tuesday at 2P.
