THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with hosts Lynn Harris Ballen & Suzette Zazueta :: FIRST … The intersection of climate change, women’s health and safety, and current federal and state restrictions on reproductive rights is a perfect storm that will put the lives and well-being of women, disproportionately women of color, at risk. Osub Ahmed, a policy analyst for women’s health and rights at the Center for American Progress, recently wrote about how climate change and extreme weather events both in the United States and around the world uniquely impact women and girls for Rewire.News, and she joins us to discuss.
THEN … Homeward LA is 10 day citywide theatrical event, currently staging 50 new stories from those who strive to find their way home. The productions are all monologues, based on stories from people who have been homeless, and all proceeds go to The Midnight Mission, a nonprofit on Skid Row that provides shelter, food, education and more to LA’s homeless population. We’re joined in studio to hear all about it from actor/writer Rebecca Delgado Smith, and Lyn Nelson – whose story is being told.
AND … “If we don’t picture our communities they will either go undocumented or documented by outsiders who might not treat us with the same care and consideration.”
The Authority Collective, made up of Women/Trans/Nonbinary photographers of color, are organizing for access and accountability in Photojournalism. And they’re building a supportive community while challenging industry leaders’ thinking about diversity and representation. We’re joined by Authority Collective board member, Melissa Bunni Elian to hear all about it.
