This Week on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen :: FIRST … What can Xicanx Futurity look like? A new exhibit at UC Davis focuses on the work of six Xicana artists: Celia Herrera Rodríguez, Felicia Montes, Gina Aparicio, Gilda Posada, Melanie Cervantes and Margaret ‘Quica’ Alarcón. THEN … #HandsOffIX! Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ recently proposed rule changes to Title IX, aiming to roll back survivors’ rights, let schools off the hook for ignoring sexual violence, and effectively push survivors out of school. The proposed change got over 100,000 public comments and was widely criticized by survivors’ and campus groups. And we hear from campus rape activist Professor Caroline Heldman about what comes next.
AND … Cherise Charleswell talks to culture writer and critic, Clarkisha Kent, the creator of the “Kent Test” which debuted on International Women’s Day 2018. We hear how these guidelines, inspired by the Bechdel test, can be used to evaluate the representation of women and femmes of color in media.
