This week on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen :: FIRST … Kiyana Williams talks to Ani Zonneveld – a writer, a singer/songwriter, speaker and a human rights defender. She speaks and sings her message of social justice, human rights, and peace from a progressive Muslim women’s perspective. Born and raised Muslim in Malaysia and based out of Los Angeles, she’s the Founder and President of President of Muslims for Progressive Values, a faith-based human rights organization, founded in 2007 which advocates for egalitarian expressions of Islam, women’s rights, LGBTQI rights, and freedom of expression.
THEN … Soleil Ho from Popaganda talks about veganism and the politics of eating plants and meat. Is it possible to reduce it to diet or wellness , or is it inherently political? What is the connection between industrialized meat production and patriarchy? And why does Western culture conflate eating meat with masculinity, and what does that have to do with climate change? We’ll hear about the place of veganism in politics from Carol J. Adams, author of The Sexual Politics of Meat and a recent cookbook, Protest Kitchen, on masculine anxieties around meat-eating and the progressive case for veganism (and how you really can’t be a Trump supporter and be a vegan!)
AND … Lucretia Tye Jasmine talks with Chanty and Lynx, whose weekly podcast from Canada, Muses & Stuff, features discussion of books written by women in music, from musicians to groupies to muses. Muses & Stuff includes interviews with the authors, and the podcast honors the stories of rock ‘n roll’s legendary muses, musicians, and groupies!
