FM Oct 30: Prop 10 / SpreadTheVote / BrandNewCongress

THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine, with hosts Lynn Harris Ballen & Kiyana Williams : Midterm elections are next week and California is in the midst of a housing crisis. A YES vote on Prop 10 repeals the Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act, and a NO vote leaves it on the books. What does this mean for California residents? Ande Richards talks to the Executive Director of the Eviction Defense Network, Elena Popp who helps us to look beyond the political ads for the reasons why we must vote YES for Prop 10, the Affordable Housing Act.

THEN … We talk to Kat Calvin, founder of Spread The Vote. They’re working against voter suppression of the young, new voters, the elderly, and minorities. And their goal is to get an ID for every voter in America who needs one, because everyone has the right to fully access their personhood, and every citizen has the right to vote.
AND … Karina Elias speaks with the Communications Director of Brand New Congress, Cory Archibald about the importance of direct contact with voters in the final days leading up to the 2018 Midterms. Find out about the impact of the Kavanaugh hearings and the growing popularity of Medicaid among voters across partisan lines. We’ll hear about the impressive grassroots campaigns happening across the country and the issues that inspired them. Learn about how you can still help bring voters to the polls on November 6 and get the word out about the issues that mean most to you.
