FM July 19:Feminism in Bollywood/ Brand New Congress /Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools

THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Karina Elias:

FIRST… Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez showed us the power of a truly progressive grassroots movement. Brand New Congress – who supported her run –  is an organization that works to bring community supported, “un-bought, ordinary working people to congress.” We are joined by the Executive Director Isra Allison to discuss the successes and challenges of a growing movement.

THEN …  Feminism meets Bollywood. We talk to radio host and assistant producer of KPFK’s Global Village Roshni Kumar about the effect of feminism on Bollywood and how that is being reflected in Indian culture.
AND  … in a featured piece by Making Contact, Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools examines the experiences of Black girls in the American Education System. Unfairly judged and punished, Black girls are flourishing despite prejudice and discrimination in the school system. Dr. Monique Morris discusses how our school system can change to reflect that Black lives matter.
