This Tuesday on Feminist Magazine with co-hosts Lynn Harris Ballen & Karina Elias :
FIRST … Just how worried should we be about reproductive rights? Last week was full of bad news – from a likely anti-abortion Trump Supreme Court nominee, the SCOTUS decision supporting fake pregnancy centers, plus the refusal of a Walgreens pharmacist to fill a morning-after pill prescription on religious grounds. We’re joined by Pamela Merritt, co-founder of ReproAction, to get her take on where we are now. We’ll talk about how Reproductive Justice includes all this – and larger issues like immigration and the right to raise families in communities free of violence and oppression. And we’ll hear how she’s fighting for it on the ground in Missouri, and nationwide.
THEN … we talk to Cynthia Alonso, from the Brown Issues Cal State LA Chapter, about her experiences at the #FamiliesBelongTogether march. You’ve probably seen Brown Issues marching & being visible on social media with their monarch ‘migration butterfly’ t-shirts and banners, standing up for immigrant justice. But we’ll also hear about how Brown Issues works with youth in high schools and college – cultivating the next generation of Brown Leaders through civic engagement and support.
AND … When She Rises, a 10-week women-centered arts exhibit highlighting social issues like ecology justice, immigrant rights and women’s equality, kicks off at SPARC in Venice on July 7th. Programming includes public art workshops, discussions and screenings to inspire knowledge sharing and community building between generations, social movements and artist disciplines. We hear all about it from Erin Yoshi, curator of When She Rises, and SPARC’s Anna Chang.
All this on Tuesday at 2, on KPFK. What Feminism Can Sound Like.
