THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine – with co-hosts Lynn Harris Ballen & Karina Elias : FIRST … The PussyHat Project began right here in LA with three women … but hundreds of thousands have knitted and marched wearing the pink cat-eared hats. The hats that became a resistance movement symbol were created by screenwriter Krista Suh and architect Jayna Zweiman, with a pattern designed by Kat Coyle of The Little Knittery. Krista, Jayna & Kat join us live in studio to talk about the founding & the amazing response to the Pussyhat Project, how crafting communities function as sites of resistance & what DIY political ‘craftivism’ looks like … and what’s next.
NEXT… We are joined by internationally recognized yoga teacher, award-winning Instagram star and body-positive advocate Jessamyn Stanley about her new book Every Body Yoga. We learn about her journey to body positivity and about how every body is a yoga body! Find out where you can catch her during the LA leg of her book tour!
PLUS … Every April (National Poetry Month), LA hosts the largest youth classic poetry festival in the world, The Get Lit Classic Slam. High school students from all over Southern California face off to “slam” iconic poems & their original responses. The festival is the finale of Get Lit’s in-school program each year. And we’re joined in studio by student poets Vanessa Tahay and Amani Kaur, with teacher Laurie Kurnick of Cleveland Charter High School in Reseda.
ALL this this Tuesday at 2pm PT on Feminist Magazine on KPFK. WHAT Feminism Sounds Like!
