THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with co-hosts Lynn Harris Ballen & Karina Elias – Radio to RESIST and ENGAGE –
FIRST … On the eve of the inauguration, NCJW|LA and local reproductive health and justice organizations lead a Rally to Save Roe – a rally and advocacy training event – to defend women’s reproductive rights in America. In the face of an uncertain political climate, they stand to uphold the right to abortion that was established 44 years ago in the historic 1973 Supreme Court Case, Roe vs. Wade. We’re joined in studio by Sandra Fluke & Rosalind Helfand of NCJW|LA and Laura Jiménez of California Latinas for Reproductive Justice.
AND … On January 21, 2017 at 1:00pm EST, 1@1 is calling on women to stop everything and rise for One Minute of Silence for Equality. At the Women’s March on Washington or other Marches around the US, in all time zones, at home or at work – to rise as one, at one – in a mindful, symbolic act of unity for equal rights, equal opportunity and equal representation. They say: “We are rising up for our sisters, our mothers, our daughters and ourselves in one unifying act to show we are only going forward. We will not go back.” We hear from Alyson Palmer – founder of 1@1.
PLUS … Felicia Montes talks to Maryann Aguirre aka DJ Que Madre about Chulita Vinyl Club – the LA chapter of this all women of color vinyl collective. As a Latina DJ Crew fighting cultural erasure, one 45 at a time – they collect and spin vinyl classics. Every week Chulita Vinyl Club drops a new mix recorded from a Chulita’s vinyl collection and shares it with fans – using music and vinyl to tell stories of their past and present.
Every Tuesday at 3 on KPFK 90.7FM. THIS is What Feminism Sounds Like!
