THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with co-hosts Karina Elias & Kiyana Williams – Radio to RESIST and ENGAGE –
Following this week’s presidential inauguration, thousands plan to take to the streets on January 21st as part of the Women’s March LA. Women’s March LA is the sister march of Women’s March DC, but they have very different messages. One is a protest, the other a march in solidarity. Karina Elias talks with producer and co-chair Deena Katz to learn all about the major event happening this Saturday.
THEN … Myra Duran, National Programme Coordinator of transnational feminist organization AF3IRM, joins us live. To discuss their take on Women’s March LA and the newly announced speakers list, from the view of a protesting contingent.
AND … Have you ever heard of hook up culture? Professor and author Lisa Wade joins us this week to share all about her new book, AMERICAN HOOKUP, about the pervasive culture around college hookups. We see it glamorized in television and media, but – rising above misinformation and moralizing – how did this become a cultural phenomenon?
PLUS … The group SEEDS recently formed in Orange County to support local communities in the wake of the election. Vanessa Gaston of SEEDS tells us all about their upcoming fundraiser event: featuring speakers on immigration, LGBTQA support and Women’s Healthcare – with information about knowing your rights & risks under the new administration & how to take action – plus zine-making and art.
