So you want to be a great ally? Safety Pin Box is a racial justice project and subscription service for white people striving to be allies in the fight for Black Liberation. With monthly tasks and calls to actions that include everything from personal work to digital influence to acts of radical compassion – it’s a way to do “measurable tasks in the fight against white supremacy” AND financially support Black femme freedom fighters. We’re joined on the line by the Safety Pin Box co-founders – Creative Director Leslie Mac & Content Director Marissa Jenae Johnson.
AND … nowadays we celebrate more women in sports- But what about the trailblazers who made it possible for the champions of today? A new book – GAME CHANGERS: The Unsung Heroines of Sports History – celebrates the stories of forgotten female athletes and shares rarely-before-seen photos. And we’re joined by it’s creator – Molly Schiot.
PLUS … Rock ‘n Roll is here to stay! And so are women in rock ‘n roll. Oral Historian and writer, Tanya Pearson, discusses her Women of Rock Oral History Project with Lucretia Tye Jasmine. WOROHP documents the lives and careers of women & gender non-conforming individuals in rock – whose work and careers have been underrepresented or omitted from rock journalism and historical scholarship. An amazing range of women – including LA’s own Alice Bag & Phranc. The collection of digital interviews is housed at the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College, one of the first women’s history archives in the United States.
Every Tuesday at 3 on KPFK 90.7FM. THIS is What Feminism Sounds Like!
