FM July 5 : Women & homelessness on L.A. streets / Support Feminist Radio

This week on Feminist Magazine with hosts Lynn Harris Ballen & Karina Elias :
New numbers report a 55% rise in the number of homeless women in Los Angeles in the last three years. And that’s accompanied by a surge in physical and verbal abuse, as well as increasing sexual assault. Homeless women are particularly vulnerable to attacks on the streets, and many are survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.
We hear from Brooke Lykins, Chief Development Officer of L.A.’s Downtown Women’s Center, along with DWC advocate Pamela Walls, about their programs and the life-changing work that DWC does.   With an update about the Los Angeles City Council’s Comprehensive Homeless Strategy, and the struggle to fund it.  Plus how a new city Strategic Plan addresses the unique needs of women, calling for more supportive services and housing for women.
