Sept 3 on FM: Pacifica Archives, ‘Miley’ & Passionate Pursuit

Hosted by Sammy Lyon, Ariana Manov and Abeni Moreno  :   All is not lost! But it could be!  Pacifica Radio Archives Director Brian DeShazor and archivist Jolene Beiser are reinstating thousands of precious women’s voices from Pacifica Radio Archive recordings related to the Women’s movement from 1963-1982. These are the voices of visionary women who met and marched and mobilized to prove what should have been self-evident. And these recordings will meet certain death through deterioration if they aren’t digitally restored! Brian and Jolene come in studio to describe how they’re riding to the rescue!

If it’s your party, you can do what you want. But some hella smart women are gonna call you out for it, and you better listen! Hear why Miley Cyrus’ performance at the Video Music Awards last weekend was racist, and how one feminist’s timely response went viral on Jezebel!  23 year old blogger Catherine Young talks about her totally on point article, Solidarity is for Miley Cyrus.”

How did black lesbian dancer and activist Angela Bowen keep her passions alive, even in the face of poverty and bigotry in the ‘70s? We seldom see how the intersections of race, class, gender, age and sexuality manifest in one woman’s life. But the documentary  The Passionate Pursuits of Angela Bowen is a portrait of the complexity of all of Bowen’s “lives” and families, her role models, the students she mentored, and the LGBT activists and scholars she influenced. Award-winning filmmaker Jennifer Abod joins us to share her journey to tell the story.

All this and more on Tuesday at 3pm on Feminist Magazine. THIS is what Feminism sounds like!
