FM April 9: “Lunch Lady Courage”, Defend Yourself & “Wonder Women”

Hosted by Lynn Harris Ballen, Sammy Lyon and Lauren McQuade : It’s time to take a fresh look at the school food debate.  And Cornerstone Theatre is doing just that with their new production of Lunch Lady Courage. This collaboration with Los Angeles High Schools of the Arts (LAHSA)  takes us to the heart of the community at stake – students, parents, teachers, cafeteria workers… and director Chris Anthony and actress Page Leong join us to tell us all about it.

This week is International Anti-Street Harassment Week. And how about learning ‘some serious skillz’ to help us to stand up to harassment in public spaces? Self defence organization, Defend Yourself, hosted a “Stand up to Street Harassers Workshop” in DC and lead instructor Lauren Taylor joins us to talk holistic self-defense and how Defend Yourself teaches skills to empower people – especially women and others targeted for abuse and assault **– to end violence, and create a world where we can all be fully ourselves.

And … WONDER WOMEN! The Untold Story of American Superheroines traces the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman. Director Kristy Guevara-Flanagan takes us from the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s to the blockbusters of today, and WONDER WOMEN! looks at how popular representations of powerful women often reflect society’s anxieties about women’s liberation.
