FM March 28: Feminist Frequency / Campus Activists/ Reyna Grande

Hosted by Lynn Harris Ballen, Monique Meza, Celina Alvarez & Ariana Manov

Anita Sarkeesian – founder of the fabulous blog Feminist Frequency – talks cultural criticism in this ‘best of Feminist Magazine’ interview.  It’s a smart conversation about her web series of video commentaries that take a new look at gender politics in popular culture . We’ll hear clips from her vids & her take on Toy Ads & Gender, Kanye West’s Monster Misogyny & more.

And how are campus feminists stepping up in this era of the war on women?  Francesca Witcher – a National Campus Organizer with the Feminist Majority Foundation – joins us to talk about the upcoming 2012 National Young Feminist Leadership Conference.  She organizes on college campuses around women’s rights and issues in the Mid-Atlantic region and on Historically Black College and University campuses and gives us the insider view on the activist training and the impact young women can have on domestic and global issues.

Then, we hear one of our classic author interviews from Reyna Grande, award-winning author of ‘Across a Hundred Mountains’. She brings us her tales and excerpts from her second novel, ‘Dancing with Butterflies’ – which went on to be the recipient of a 2010 International Latino Book Award.
