Nov 23 on FM: Alice Bag, Men & Feminism

Hosted by Christene Kings, Susan Kraker, Denise Zepeda

Wednesday on Feminist Magazine we talk with Alice Bag about her new book- Violence Girl, which chronicles the feminist punk experience and the birth of the L.A. punk scene from a Chicana perspective.

The proximity of the East L.A. barrio to Hollywood is as close as a short drive on the 101 freeway, but the cultural divide is enormous. Born to Mexican-born and American-naturalized parents, Alicia Armendariz migrated a few miles west to participate in the free-range birth of the 1970s punk movement. Alicia adopted the punk name Alice Bag, and became lead singer for The Bags, early punk visionaries who starred in Penelope Spheeris’ documentary The Decline of Western Civilization.

Plus get ready for a robust and productive dialogue on men as feminist activists and allies. Santa Monica College Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance are hosting the Men And Feminism Panel Discussion at Santa Monica College on December 1st. Melanie Klein, Pia Guerrero, and Hugo Schwyzer join the show to discuss the upcoming panel and why men care about feminism in the first place.

Listen in Wednesday at 7PM. This is what feminism sounds like!
