” We declare this a sovereign nation”. Regina Quetzal Quinones, as a part of the Indigenous People’s Committee, worked to stake out the boundaries of a sovereign nation at the Occupy L.A. City Hall space. She connects that action to the larger struggle to gain recognition by the United Nations to address the rights of indigenous peoples all over the world -and she examines what that looks like from a very inclusionary feminist activist/organizer’s perspective.
And educator & activist Rosie Molinary navigates across treacherous literal and metaphorical borders with Latina women learning to (re)create and embrace their multi-cultural identities. Her books “Hijas Americanas: Beauty, Body Image and Growing Up Latina” and “Beautiful You: A Daily Guide to Radical Self Acceptance” map largely uncharted territory, and how to get from here to there.
Wednesday night at 7pm. This is what feminism sounds like!
