Hosted by Lynn Harris Ballen, Christene Kings and Monique Meza
We hear from filmmakers Martha Wheelock & Jane Guthrie about their historic film ““California Women Win the Vote!” The remarkable story celebrating the centennial of suffrage in California and how women in the west changed national politics.
Then, Samhita Mukhopadhyay, executive editor of Feministing.com, talks to us about her new book, “Outdated: Why Dating is Ruining Your Love Life.” Hear her unique feminist perspective on how mainstream/pop media influences dating and finding romance for women of color in the 21st century. We’ll demystify some assumptions about dating, sexist dating myths and their direct connection with the intersections of race, class, gender, sexuality and culture.
And … Becky Gebhardt and Mona Tavakoli, the co-founders & directors of Rock Camp for Girls LA join the show to talk about empowering girls through music education. The summer camp experience is designed to mentor girls in music and self-expression, while boosting self-esteem.
