Hosted by Melissa Chiprin and Christene Kings
Joining us are activists Ana Castillo and Azalea Ryckmanm, we will have a conversation about the film- Killer’s Paradise– Since 1999 more than two thousand women have been murdered in Guatemala, with the numbers escalating every year. Yet, lawmakers and government officials continue to turn a blind eye.
Bringing the Circle Together, A Native American Film Series, this month features this powerful and uncompromising film, Killer’s Paradise, which uncovers one of the most emotionally- wrenching hidden human rights abuses taking place, while exposing the impunity allowed by an inept judicial system. Castillo and Ryckmanm will also discuss their work with Mujeres Abriendo Caminos (Women Opening Paths); connecting L.A. Women’s stories to Guatemalan Women through radio, and focusing on issues of Women’s rights in Guatemala.
Later, We will have a discussion with Tani Ikeda and Andrea Penagos of The Women’s Creative Collective. The collective is a movement of wholeness- dedicated to bearing witness to undertold and untold stories, as well as committed to a feminist, post-colonial ideology. They believe in the importance of diversity, both within their organization, and in the communities with which they collaborate. We will focus on The Women’s Creative Collective First Annual Skill Share a two day retreat starting April 11th in Joshua Tree with workshop themes of respect, responsibility, and relationship to story, spirituality and the earth.
