THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen : FIRST … In 2020, 2 million voters approved Measure J – an investment in community services and alternatives to incarceration in Los Angeles County. But after interference by law enforcement special interest groups, the California Court of Appeal finally upheld the will of voters and declared Measure J constitutional.
And now this Care First Community Investment process can go forward fully. We hear all about it from Myanna A. Khalfani-King & Megan Castillo, two leaders in the Re-Imagine LA Coalition fighting for the implementation of Measure J.
AND … In the mid 1990s, the Reproductive Justice movement was formed by Black and indigenous women as a response to the limitations of the “reproductive rights” movement. Amy Gastelum of Making Contact Radio talks to Dr. Alexis Pauline Gumbs, scholar and writer, about her book “Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Frontlines”, her experience being a teenager during the formation of the Reproductive Justice Movement and what she’s reading now to inform this moment.
