THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Valecia Phillips – RADIO to RESIST and ENGAGE
FIRST – Internet trolling is an anti-social behavior, a form of cyberbullying, and often an act of cowardice carried out under the cloak of anonymity. The current administration has taken it to new levels of debasement by using Twitter as a platform for attacking the media, enabling misogyny and inciting violence. Cherise Charleswell speaks with feminist writer, performer, and professor of communications, Dr. Meggie Mapes about her article – Learning from Twitter Trolls: A Feminist Survival Guide. Dr. Mapes studies the emergence of anti-feminist backlash in social media movements.
THEN – For Independence Day, we offer a sonic balm – bringing you songs by women about freedom and what it means to stand up and speak out including a dedication to the brilliant pianist, composer and educator Geri Allen who recently passed away at age 60. Songs to keep you inspired, pushing and centered in a place of power.
