FM Nov 16, 2022 : “Comfort Women” / Veteran’s Day / Idle No More

This week on FemMag with host Lynn Harris Ballen :: FIRST … Last week on Veteran’s Day, members of transnational feminist organization AF3IRM LA were out protesting on the streets of Echo Park.  Reminding us of the forgotten history of formerly colonized nations and people affected by the US military.  We talk to Jollene Levid of AF3IRM about Filipino veterans, and the still unacknowledged history of “Comfort Women”
(Plus we hear just some of the books that women of AF3IRM have been reading lately! See below)

THEN … for Native American Heritage month … from the Archives, we hear about Idle No More – an Indigenous grassroots movement that brought together environmental justice and indigenous rights. Spreading across Canada, the organization was founded in 2012. Since then, thousands of people have joined in their protests. Making Contact Radio talked with one of Idle No More’s co-founders Sylvia McAdam.
