FM May 11, 2022 : After Roe / Abortion ACCESS / “The Janes”

THIS WEEK on Feminist Magazine with host Lynn Harris Ballen
FIRST…  ACCESS Reproductive Justice is California’s only statewide abortion fund, removing barriers that exist – even in a state with strong reproductive rights. We talk to Executive Director Jessica Pinkney about their work: an info and support Healthline and their Reproductive Justice in Action Training for volunteers to support folks needing abortion care. Plus the policy changes they’re working on to make abortion even more accessible in California – for residents as well as people forced to travel to California for care
AND …  After this week’s SCOTUS leak about the likely overturning of Federal abortion protection through Roe v Wade — we look at what things were like before Roe and at the current at-home abortion movement. In this powerful documentary segment, Charlotte Landes of Making Contact looks back at the early ’70s when a radical collective in Chicago – nicknamed ‘The Janes’ – took abortions into their own hands. And, Linci Comy of Woman’s Choice Clinic and Nina Liss-Schultz of Mother Jones Magazine discuss how people keep finding ways to make this vital procedure accessible.
