To close out Women’s Herstory Month, we are rebroadcasting our hour-long music special about the book, “Women Who Rock: Bessie to Beyoncé. Girl Groups to Riot Grrrl.“, which is a full-throated and colossally gorgeous tribute to the female artists who have always defined and continue to make indelible contributions to popular music. It’s a book about women, and by women, who have kicked down doors and planted flags, not just for women, but for feminism, fashion, social justice, and human rights. It’s an all-out celebration of more than 100 of the greatest female musicians with full-color illustrated portraits by women artists. Women Who Rock is for every fan, feminist and female rocker, young or old.
Editor, writer and professor of journalism Evelyn McDonnell takes us through the evolution of music by women including blues, country, hard rock, folk, punk and hip hop. She is joined by contributors Alice Bag, Adele Bertei, DJ Lynnée Denise, Mukta Mohan, Lucretia Tye Jasmine and Allison Wolfe who talk about the extraordinary artists they wrote about.
