FIRSTEducator, Social Advocate, Film & Television Writer and Director,Carmen Elly Wilkerson speaks with Cherise Charleswell about her short film,“The Reunion”. Carmen is a former public health practitioner who felt a stronger calling to serve in a capacity where her ‘pen’ would be the weapon for change.Wilkerson’s film is inspired by her personal experience with sexual assault as a teen and told from the perspective of four different witnesses.

THEN  Que Vivan Las Mariposas: An Exhibition of Revolutionary Resistance to State Violence opens this Thursday, November 29 at Self Help Graphics in Boyle Heights. We’ll hear about the history of “Las Mariposas” and the importance of art in resistance.  AF3IRM LA Co-coordinator, Valeria Espinosa speaks with Karina Elias about the exhibition running November 29-December 2 in recognition of the UN campaign: 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

ANDWe are joined by Professor and Author, Robyn McGee, editor of the newly released text, “#Fierce Feminism: Women in the 21st Century: An Interdisciplinary Approach”. Ms. McGee will help us unpack some of the pressing issues facing women in the United States.
