FM July 9: Border Women, ‘Cortes y Fuertes’ & Ladypoints

Hosted by Lynn Harris Ballen & Ariana Manov : Let’s talk about what the battles for immigration reform and reproductive healthcare mean for migrant women’s rights. .. In the light of the current abortion rights fights in Texas, we want to remember why the fight for Texas women is also a fight for immigrant women and women of color. We’ll be talking to Kimberly Inez McGuire from National Latinas for Reproductive Health about the on-the-ground experiences of immigrant women who live in border towns – stories that aren’t being covered by the mainstream media.

Then, it’s time for youth voices to be heard. Marlene Montañez tells us about the “Cortos y Fuertes / Short and Strong” film competition – creating a space for youth to tell their immigrant stories.

And what are Ladypoints? We’ll hear from Jamie Li & Keiko Wright about this new web-series focused on celebrating young women defining success on their own terms… drummers, journalists & radical teachers … sharing the awesome things that they do, while balancing ‘real world’ responsibilities – like paying the rent.

All this and more on Tuesday at 3pm. This is what Feminism Sounds Like!
