FM June 25:Good to be Needed, Facebook Misogyny & Ladyfest IE

Hosted by Sammy Lyon & Lynn Harris Ballen : Breaking up is hard to do! Feminist Magazine guest producer Rachel Gelfand talks with queer feminist artist Michele Pearson Clarke about her current photography/performance project It’s Good To Be Needed. The project focuses on queer ex-partners who are not friends, and is currently in the group exhibition, That’s So Gay in Toronto.  We discuss queer intimacies, Pride season, Feminist Art spaces, and how we can be a healing community!
Does Facebook have a misogyny problem? Are you one of the thousands of women and girls, and allied guys, who’ve been horrified by and complained about the anti-woman Facebook pages, photos and rape & violence memes that have kept popping up all over the network? Well, a coalition of feminist activists got together recently to do something about it. And one of those activists, journalist Soraya Chemaly, tells us all about the success of their campaign.
What happens when Ladyfest goes to the Inland Empire? Ladyfest I.E. is a grassroots, D.I.Y, feminist and queer festival, and its organizers are creating a space for young feminists and queer youth and women of color where no space exists.
We’re joined by IE riotgrrrls & Ladyfest organizers Gloria Lucas & Claudia Coy.  Sharing music & performers that inspire them – from Alice Bag to All or Nothing HC to Allison Wolfe of Bratmobile.   And an update on the upcoming Ladyfest IE/IE Riot Grrrl Crafts, Zines & Music Night.
This is what Feminism sound like!
