FM April 16: Teach-In, ‘We Women Warriors’ & FemMag Reads

Hosted by Lynn Harris Ballen, Sammy Lyon and Lauren McQuade :  First, we’re bringing you highlights from the KPFK 90.7 FM Women’s History Month Teach-In, coordinated by members of the KPFK Local Station Board.
Hear clips from the Educational/Cultural Panel  speakers: WOMEN of POWER on the POWER of WOMEN, including Jewel Thais (Village Health Foundation) Lila Garrett ( KPFK Host of Connect the Dots) Amitis Motevalli (Transnational Artist/Feminist) KPFK’s Sister Charlene Muhammad (Liberated Sisters) KPFK’s Elisa Mejia (Insurgencia Femenina) and Cynthia McKinney (Former U.S. Representative from Georgia)

And, hear all about the Launch of the KPFK Mother’s Day Peace Card Campaign – where you can honor the original theme of Peace with a personalized card, featuring the original Mother’s Day Proclamation poem by Julia Ward Howe, written in 1870 and calling for all women to unite to disarm and end war. You’re invited to honor a phenomenal woman in your life – Mothers Day is May 12th!

Then, we’re joined by Nicole Karsin… director of “We Women Warriors”, a documentary film that follows three indigenous Colombian women who stand up and use nonviolent resistance to defend their people during Colombia’s civil and drug wars. Seven years in the making, this award winning documentary gives a true sense of the cost of civil war and how indigenous women leaders try and reweave their communities caught between two sides of ‘men with guns’.

PLUS… What it’s like to read the work of Adrienne Rich for the first time? April is National Poetry month and FemMag Reads is back – with blogger Danielle Roderick, and Meg Wade from Skylight Books to tell us all about it.

All this and more on Tuesday at 3pm … THIS is What Feminism Sounds Like!
