May 12 on FM: Girls Play Ball, HollaBack at Harrassers & Arroyo Museums Celebrate Women

Hosted by Christene KingsCelina Alvarez and Lynn Harris Ballen

Just in time for baseball season…12 year old Chelsea Baker will bring us up to speed with her 70mph fastball and knuckleball which helped her pitch two “perfect games”. Plus Justine Siegal – the first female to coach professional men’s baseball (and the only woman currently coaching baseball at the college level) – will join in on the conversation to talk about what she’s doing to bring more young girls into this male dominated sport!

We’ll hear from Emily May of ‘HollaBack’ – a grassroots organization that’s all about ending street harassment of women. Since 2005, Holla Back NYC has been encouraging women to snap pics of cat callers and harassers, and post the photos on the group’s site. Now the founders are launching an iPhone app too – for a database that aims to change the power dynamic & help enforcement of anti-harassment laws in cities.

Plus Jessica Maria Alicea-Covarrubias tells all about the upcoming Free Museums of the Arroyo Day. And gives us a peek into the lives of amazing Women in Early LA at Heritage Square – celebrating the 90th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage.
